La Stone Therapy

Barbette LaStone TherapyIn the year 2000, I embarked on a road trip to Tucson, Arizona and trained with Mary Nelson, the founder and originator of La Stone Therapy. This form of bodywork involves the use of heated and cooled stones. Basalt and marble stones are the medium, and the hot and cold temperatures are the messages. This therapy is truly healing. The “vascular gymnastics” of the circulatory system assists the body in self-healing.

When circulation is increased, nutrition to the cells increases, and the quality of the blood is improved. When you increase blood flow through the skin, liver, bowels, and kidneys, detoxification is increased. When using both hot and cold stones in a massage, you are accelerating the exchange of blood, lymph, and digestive fluids in the body.

La Stone Therapy produces alternately sedative and re-energizing responses to the body. It goes beyond the physical experience of a regular massage, and enters deeper dimensions of relaxation, health and well being, creating a positive approach to “Body-Mind-Spirit” philosophy.

The session begins with you lying on the table underneath a towel, and after I place the stones underneath your back, neck, hands and feet, and on top of your torso, I then begin giving you the massage with oil and heated basalt stones. A sheet and pillowcase protect you from the hot temperature. The session lasts for up to 90 minutes.
